Despite being under 40 Nautical Miles from the Outer Hebrides off Scotland's stunning west coast St. Kilda lies in the often unforgiving North Atlantic.  A bucket list item for many sailors we aim to bring together like minded adventurers in "The St. Kilda Challenge"

What is the St. Kilda Challenge

Quite simply it is a gathering of sailors held in the spirit of adventure with safety in company to undertake one of sailing's most memorable events.  Whether your preference is to cruise or race we hope you can join us both afloat and ashore (when we next can) for one of Scotland's unique events.

On The Water

With a flotilla option for those wishing to cruise in company, a sprint race from Lochmaddy and an overnight passage race (from Rathlin Island) we've got you covered!  The flotilla and sprint race will both depart from Lochmaddy, starting in the sound of Harris.  With the flotilla making their own way to St. Kilda both fleets are permitted motoring in the case of calm weather, with a time penalty of course! Both race fleets rounds the St. Kilda archipelago in a clockwise direction before finishing in village Bay.

The passage race (which starts from Rathlin Island) has its primary routeing taking the fleet to the west of the Scottish Islands.  An alternative routeing option is available if needed due to weather conditions.  The passage race rounds the St. Kilda archipelago in a clockwise direction before finishing in village bay like the sprint race fleet.

If weather conditions suit there is time to step ashore. The flotilla, sprint and passage race fleets then head for the onshore festivities at Lochmaddy! We are looking forward to all three fleets returning for the 2022 event.

On Shore

Sing, dance, gather with friends and like minded souls.  What better way to celebrate "The St. Kilda Challenge" than with a programme of onshore events.  With all three fleets joining together at Lochmaddy on North Uist the islanders have a warm welcome ready for your arrival.  Follow the link below to see the full programme of shore side events.
